Mitchell's Salon & Day Spa, Greater Cincinnati's largest independently-owned chain of beauty salons, is featured in the just-released Fall issue of the national beauty magazine HairStyle Showcase, in a layout titled "Mix it Up at Mitchell's" The four-page color spread features four models showing off hairstyles created by Mitchell's designers. One of the models, 18-year-old Cheyenne Ohmer of Oak Hills, even made the cover. Ohmer admits that she was a little surprised. "My mother was shopping at Kroger and saw it," Ohmer said. "She brought two copies home with her." Ohmer, who will soon graduate from the Cincinnati Public Schools "Virtual High School", has been modeling since 2006, when she first appeared in an ad promoting organ donation, created by her brother-in-law, who is a graphic designer. That led to a modeling assignment for Cincinnati Bridal Magazine, where she met Vivian Moore, managing vice president of Mitchell's. Moore later called Ohmer, to ask if she would like to model for Mitchell's, with other young women. Mitchell's models are frequently featured in national beauty publications. "Besides the fact that she was stunningly beautiful, I was impressed with her ability to take direction," Moore said. "That's the difference between somebody who is able to take a pretty picture and somebody who is able to model. I enjoyed her spirit." Ohmer was excited to participate in the photo session, but said that she did not think of herself as a cover model. "I would have expected one of the other girls I shot with to wind up on the cover," she said. "I never thought it would be me." The other models in the Mitchell's layout are: Kris Missall of Milford; Celeste Streutker, formerly of Independence, Kentucky, now living in Palm Springs, California; Kristin Smith of Dayton, Ohio; and Rachel Stefausen of Cincinnati. The photos were shot by Annette McCall, a leading Cincinnati-based fashion photographer, who shoots for major publications. She said at least seven models who have posed for Mitchell's projects have gone on to have successful modeling careers in New York and Los Angeles. All of the Mitchell's models in the current HairStyle Showcase are represented by Wings Model Management, except for Ohmer, who does not have an agent. She said that she would enjoy modeling part-time, but has other interests when it comes to a full-time career. "I wouldn't mind doing it on the side to help pay for college, but I'm looking into studying zoology," she said. |
